Janeane has a master’s level education in both clinical mental health counseling and art therapy. Janeane is a Registered and Board Certified Art Therapist, (ATR-BC) Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor, Clinical Supervisor (LICDC-CS), a Certified Gambling Addictions Specialist (GAMB), and Prevention Specialist in the State of Ohio.
Prior to becoming a counselor, Janeane was a nurse for over two decades. She obtained a Diploma in Nursing from Willoughby-Eastlake, School of Practical Nursing in 1985. Janeane received an Associates (A.A) of Arts Degree from Lakeland Community College in 2008. During her time at Lakeland, she also received a Human Services Certificate and became a Certified Activities Director, which she practiced for several years. Janeane received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Forensic Psychology (B.A.) from Lake Erie College, in 2010. Janeane received her Masters of Arts Degree in Counseling and Art Therapy (M.A.) from Ursuline College, in 2015.
Janeane has experience treating, adolescents and adults with diverse backgrounds and ranges of concerns. Janeane has training in a variety of counseling modalities to include, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and integrative, in which she combines talk and art therapy, along with other multi-sensory therapies. Janeane is a humanistic, person-centered therapist. Janeane’s diverse education and professional background in both the mind and the body gives her a unique and effective approach to counseling. Janeane works to provide clients with tailored treatment plans that can be integrated into their daily lives.
Janeane’s current practice is within an inpatient adult psychiatry unit where she is a part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team, utilizing an integrative treatment approach. She is also currently the owner of StellasDream Art Therapy and Counseling. Janeane utilizes both traditional and holistic treatment modalities, incorporating verbal processing and art therapy when appropriate as treatment interventions.
Outside of her current practice, Janeane has worked as a counselor and art therapist in a variety of settings and is experienced in chemical dependency treatment, dual diagnosis, community mental health, forensic psychology, elderly and dementia care, human sexuality and disability, education, research, consultation and supervision. Janeane has worked with the American Psychiatric Association as a collaborating investigator in the development of the diagnostic criteria for the DSM-5. She is experienced in assessment and diagnosis of mental and emotional disorders in both counseling and art therapy modalities.
Janeane holds a number of professional memberships, including the American Psychological Association (APA), National Association of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselors (NAADAC), American Counseling Association (ACA), International Art Therapy Association (IATA), American Art Therapy Association (AATA), and the Buckeye Art Therapy Association (BATA), where she currently serves as the BATA BOD Clinical Chair (2016-2020).
In addition to her licenses, she holds several certifications and is an experienced presenter of motivational lectures and continuing education. She is an approved CEU provider for OCSWMFT on topics related to ethics, counseling modalities, art therapy and addictions. Janeane continues to educate herself by attending national and local conferences, keeping up with current evidenced based research, and continually seeking supervision.
